About The Author And Illustrator
Pedro Valentin Jr., born in New York City and raised in Meriden, Connecticut, is a classically trained artist having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BA) from Philadelphia University of the Arts and a Master of Fine Arts (MA) from Syracuse University.
After a distinguished career as an illustrator in advertising, Pedro was determined to be of help to others and worked for the State of Connecticut in housing and workforce development. In 2003, he combined both passions and joined the faculty of Capital Community College, where he helped students and led them to discover the wonder of artistic expression. While there, he served as curator for the Conrad L. Mallett Art Gallery. One of his more personally rewarding projects was working in partnership with Three Rivers Community College and Wally Lamb on the creation of "Couldn't Keep It to Myself, the product of a literary and artistic rehabilitation program at York Correctional Institution, which was featured on 60 Minutes and selected by Oprah Winfrey's book club. Pedro is now retired, living in Lebanon, Connecticut, and dedicating himself to his artistic pursuits.
Anyone who knows Pedro Valentin knows that he is a creative force. Inspired by his love for his son, in Favorite Things, this gifted artist and educator has directed his talents on creating a distinctive and captivating series of prints. Each image is a story in and of itself, expressing both novelty and universal themes and emotions in ways that are simple, yet complex and engaging. The rich narrative quality of Pedro Valentin’s work takes the act of coloring to a new level. For the individual, coloring is emotionally soothing, it stimulates the brain and creativity, and by focusing on the present, helps you achieve mindfulness. For a parent or teacher, coloring can become an interactive experience. I can easily image that Favorite Things will open up conversations that will enrich your understanding of your child’s or student’s inner life of private thoughts and feelings.

My Favorite things is a whimsical review of items that incorporate imagination into daily lesson. The accompanying coloring book allows for selt-expression while expanding on the lesson available in every scene. Finding a book that leads to conversation and expanded language opportunities is wonderful for people with special needs and provides an inspiring springboard to turther exploration.
